Happy Family Day to all of our staff, students and your families!  We hope that you spent the day with friends and family who are nearest and dearest to you, and enjoy this short break before we ramp up for the end of Term 2.  We have been very busy at Brookswood, with opening night of our Musical happening last week, a full film crew in the building and the majority of our boys and girls basketball teams in play-offs.  We also had field trips to the BC Supreme Courts, an outing for some of our French Immersion students, plus the first of our Ski-Snowboard Club events.   This coming week, though short, will likely prove to be just as busy!  We have painting happening in our Learning Commons (good-bye orange!) and the musical continues (get your tickets!).

IN AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM

BSS French students expanded their culinary repertoire this week at Old Surrey restaurant, which appears on Open Table’s list of favourites,  being voted “Most Romantic.”

Linen tablecloths, old-school elegant service, and classic French cuisine in a heritage home awaited the students who enjoyed a special menu of French favourites, including prawns Provençale, escargots Bourguignon, steak au poivre, Ratatouille, tourtière Québécoise, and decadent desserts such as chocolate mousse, apple tarte Tatin, and crème caramel.

They were greeted and served in French by the original owner, who comes out of retirement once a year to welcome BSS students to the restaurant his son now runs.

Intramural Winners:

The winners of the Intramural 3 on 3 Competition are:

Junior Leadership: Taking Care of Staff

The Junior Leadership class has been secretly working on personal care packages for our staff members (teachers, administrative and support staff) these past 3 weeks. Personalized mugs were ordered and cards crafted to brighten their day! Yummy treats and a gratitude journal were also packed in the gift bag. The students knew that each staff member contributes to the quality of their schooling and wanted to express gratitude for the work they do.

LET’S TALK TRADES NIGHT

The District is having a “Let’s Talk Trades Evening on February 15 at the Langley Events Centre” and all are invited to attend.  All district programs, Employer Associations and Post-Secondary Institutions will be in attendance.

For more information contact the Career Centre at 604-530-5132.

Students in grade 11 and 12 accepted to participate in one of the Youth TRAIN in Trades programs receive elective credits towards graduation, post-secondary credits, and Industry Training Authority (ITA) technical trades apprenticeship training.  It is also, an excellent opportunity for students in the younger grades, to start mapping out their future and create the lifestyle they want.

These programs are an amazing opportunity for students who live in Langley, and the evening itself is free (just show up!).

MUSICAL: FIDDLER ON THE ROOF

Come on out and support our production of “Fiddler on the Roof”! We open on Feb.7th and go until Feb.17. Please order your tickets at www.brookswoodfiddler.brownpapertickets.com

There are still performances this week!  Hope to see you there!

The Senior Leadership class is excited to launch their first Multiculturalism Awareness Day on Friday, Feb 16! For the past 3 years, they have hosted a Chinese New Year Breakfast for the student body in the Breakfast Club room, but this year, they decided to go BIGGER and host an Awareness event where 16 countries will be featured in the SMALL GYM at lunch and students will have the ability to sample food from around the world. Not only that, there will music heard from the different countries and at each booth, students can participate in answering the skill testing question from the country it represents.
