Here at Brookswood, we hope that this long weekend was both restful and productive for our staff, students and their families. This short week is still very busy for students, and please make note of some upcoming early dismissal dates, as well as the nearing end of Term 1. This past week, we remembered as a school with a beautiful assembly in our theatre.
In classes, we finished the last rotation for Grade 8s participating in Woodwork, Music, Textiles and Computers, and our Art 8 students enjoyed working with some clay this week!
Thank you to all teachers and students who made this year’s assembly possible, from our drama and art students to our social studies classes, and our Cadet volunteers.
IN THE CLASSROOM
This week students in Art 8 had a chance to work with some clay! For the past few weeks Mrs. Neufeld’s Socials 10 class has been working to create memorials. She asked students to think outside the mainstream narrative of Remembrance and research a group or individual who has not been traditionally recognized for their contribution to the Canadian war effort. Based on this research students created a memorial which would meaningfully celebrate and recognize the contributions of that group or individual. The results were displayed at our Remembrance Day assemblies. Our leadership students were very busy this week, with cyber workshops for seniors in our library (they will be coaching the seniors through how to send/receive emails, Google, use Skype (to communicate with grandchildren!), Google maps, social media and many other important tools to empower these seniors with their pieces of technology.), and anti-bullying training with The Red Cross.
